Thursday, July 25, “Venezuela en Ritmo“ has the honour to welcome COMPASSES for their first concert in Berlin, for the benefit of “AleVen Humanitäre Hilfe e.V.“ at Ballhaus Berlin, Chausseestr. 102, 10115, at 7:00 pm.

Compasses are a Venezuelan band, who develop a fresh and unique instrumental performance out of their folkoristic roots. Merging the beauty of the traditional joropo (sung, played and danced throuout the seasons) with the energy of musical genres such as Jazz and Progressive Rock. They explore each of their instrument's full capacities, based on the diversity of Venezuelan joropo enriched by new sounds and technical virtuosity. Compasses take the rhythm and sonority of Venezuelan folk to an uncomparable velocity, without losing any of its substance and sensitivity.
The quartet is made up of Eduard Jiménez (harp), Alis Cruces (cuatro), Nelson Echandia (bass) und Andrés Ortiz (maracas).

The new Retro-A-Capella program ”Dreh den Swing auf” by Berlin-based vocal band Gretchen's Answer is a homage to bygone times without losing its grip on the present: The ”Roaring Twenties” merge with the vibrant Berlin nightclubs of today to create an intoxicating time of their own. There Britney Spears dances in a banana skirt and The Police's ”Roxanne” is sent as a pearl embroidered flapper to the jazz red light district. As modern femmes fatales, the Gretchen girls turn all genres and gender ideas upside down. You've never heard German gangsta rap like this before!

With beguiling vocals and feminine esprit, Gretchen's answer makes the gramophone glow as sophisticated DJanes when they mix swing and rap, Charleston and pop and jazz and rock wildly.

On Monday, 25th of November Kitiplas - Venezuela en Ritmo has the honor to welcome Insólito UniVerso for their first concert in Berlin, for the benefit of AleVen Humanitäre Hilfe e.V. at Ballhaus Berlin, Chausseestr. 102, 10115 Berlin, at 8:00 pm.

Paris-based quartet Insólito UniVerso is a project that takes inspiration from a wide range of sources, such as psychedelic folk, electronics, and mostly the rhythms and instruments of Venezuelan folklore.

Taking all of these influences, the band constructs a unique sound, represented through their original compositions and arrangements; taking Venezuelan music to unheard realms.

An evening with Bridge Marklands legendary short transformation performances. Toured around the world since the early nineties –
finally in one show!
Here we meet: The most beautiful woman in the world, comfortable Karl, a Russian GoGo dancer, Banana Gitti + small-time crook Sascha Sehrschön.
The Berliner Bridge Markland stirs up gender stereotypes. At 17 she was wearing her first double breasted pinstriped suit together with female make-up. Her quick transformations between genders and roles are legendary and a very natural part of her stage shows.

Bridge Markland - short biography

The Berlin born performer Bridge Markland is a virtuoso of roleplay + transformation. An artist who effortlessly crosses boundaries between dance, theatre, performance, cabaret + puppet theatre. Since 1985 Bridge has been seen on stages professionally.
Her speciality are gender-performances in which the change of woman to man (or vice versa) can be experienced. Markland is pioneer of drag + gender performance in Germany and has organized Drag-King events, tours + festivals from 1994-2002. She toured her productions in Germany, Europe, USA, Canada + Australia. Her main focus are OneWomanShows of classical German theatre pieces (faust in the box and others) plus short performances: silent movie expression, drag , erotic comedy. Besides her solos she also works for other companies. Since 2016 she has been a company member of Le Pustra's Kabarett der Namenlosen / Cabaret Show inspired by Berlin in the 1920's.
